Not A Soup Kitchen

2025

At Labor of Love: The Community Kitchen, the mission is simple: to feed people meals they may not have access to otherwise, regardless of their financial situation. This isn’t a soup kitchen feeding the masses; it’s a community kitchen that feeds the soul. Every plate serves as a reminder that good food is a birthright, not a privilege.

Our dishes are crafted from nearly a century of family recipes that honor the heart of Classic Black Heritage Cooking; rooted in four major regions: Appalachia, The Cotton Belt, The Gulf Coast, and The Low Country. Many people have grown up eating these meals without realizing the deep history behind them. As enslaved ancestors were displaced across the country, they carried their culinary traditions, adapting recipes to what the land and circumstance allowed.

Today, those traditions live on through the flavors that built American cuisine. From the soulful comfort of the Cotton Belt to the rich Creole and Cajun blends of the Gulf Coast, every meal tells a story of resilience, creativity, and love. Labor of Love exists to preserve that legacy and to make sure everyone has a seat at the table.

As we grow our kitchen, we're working to find the money we need. Our big goal is to raise $100,000. This money will help us get a permanent place for our kitchen, buy new equipment, and serve our community on a consistent basis. To reach this goal, we have a plan. We'll join business competitions to impress potential sponsors and run crowdfunding campaigns to meet our specific targets. We believe that with the right help, we can really make a big difference in the food world.
